udatsu sushi — 8 seat, omakase tasting menu led by michelin starred hisashi udatsu
tracing back to our initial site visit, at first sight we were immediately drawn to the historical, industrial feel of the space - exposed and rusted metal beams, decaying walls exposing layers of history framed by slabs of thick volumes of concrete. these elements helped inform the initial direction and formed the canvas for us to respectfully build upon.
hidden behind an authentic, imported meiji-era japanese kura door, an intimate play between textures, inviting gestures and cascading shadows set the tone and inform the mood for udatsu sushi — warm, stony plaster intentionally applied to feel both artistic yet grounding sets the backdrop for the monastic charred pine bar seating designed by deceres, botanical sculptures by alejandro bataille and artwork by cerith wyn evans.
a history reimagined, udatsu is a timeless space that blends japanese tradition with warm, minimalist forms.
